Who is Encanto ?
Walt Disney Animation Studios produced Encanto. It was released in the US on November 24, 2021 and is the 60th Disney animated picture. Jared Bush and Charise Castro Smith wrote and directed the film.
The film revolves on the Madrigals, a multigenerational family with supernatural gifts—except Mirabel. Encanto is the second Disney animated picture released in 2021 (after Raya and the Last Dragon), and its soundtrack topped the US Billboard 200 in 2022. The Golden Globe-winning picture was 2021’s highest-grossing animated movie.
Alma Madrigal loses her husband Pedro while fleeing armed violence, but she rescues her three baby children. A candle held by Alma is infused with magic and forms a sentient “Casita” for the Madrigals and refugees, who establish Encanto.
Encanto flourishes under the Casita’s protection, and the enchantment gives the Madrigals, including Alma, superhuman powers called “gifts.” Bruno and Mirabel are excluded when the magic involves presents. Bruno’s precognition is despised owing of the unpredictability of his visions, which drove him to vanish. Mirabel has no talent and is regarded differently by the family (“The Family Madrigal”). Mirabel gives Antonio the guts to give Pepa’s youngest son a present (“Colombia, Mi Encanto”). Antonio has the power to converse with animals, and the village celebrates, but Mirabel is sorry for herself (“Waiting on a Miracle”).
That night, Mirabel observes fractures surrounding the home and the candle flickering, but when she attempts to show her family, everything is fine (“En Barranquilla Me Quedo”). She learns Abuela believes her and saves the magic. After consulting her super-hearing cousin Dolores, she confronts her super-strong sister Luisa. Mirabel gets her to admit she’s overloaded by the family (“Surface Pressure”) and says she felt weaker when she noticed the fissures. Luisa that Mirabel visit Bruno’s old chamber since he previously saw the family’s magic. Mirabel explores a big sand-filled tunnel and sees a vision showing she caused the home to split. Luisa admits that her strength is failing, and Abuela warns Mirabel not to speak to anybody, even her flawless elder sister Isabela, who can make flowers appear, since she’s getting engaged that evening to a local guy.
