Why is Winnie the Pooh’s Tiger so popular?
Christopher Robin’s toy tiger Tigger originally appears in the 1968 Disney short Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day. Winnie the Pooh’s pal loves bouncing.
Tigger is based on one of Milne’s toy animals. Today, he’s best known as reimagined by Disney, with orange and black stripes, beady eyes, a long chin, springy tail, and a fondness of bouncing.
Tigger is the Hundred Acre Wood’s most eccentric character. Tigger is very enthusiastic, irresponsible, and inconsiderate, causing him and his buddies disasters. Tigger is caring and friendly at his heart; he means well and wants to help his pals, even if his attempts result in catastrophe, like in Christopher Robin, when he replaces Christopher Robin’s papers with objects from the Hundred Acre Wood to remember him and his friends. He’s also the most gregarious animal, ready to share his happiness with others.
Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day introduces Tigger. Tigger introduces himself to Pooh late at night after bouncing upon him. Tigger tries Pooh’s honey but hates it. Heffalumps and Woozles are the only honey thieves, says Tigger. Tigger quickly goes. The following day, Tigger, Rabbit, Kanga, and Roo come to Christopher Robin’s home to escape the water. He then celebrates Pooh’s first hero party and sings “Hip-Hip-Poohray”.
Rabbit becomes upset with Tigger’s continuous bouncing in Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too, particularly when he destroys his garden. Rabbit leads Tigger into the woods and loses him. Rabbit, Pooh, and Piglet become lost in the mist, foiling their plot. Pooh and Piglet make their way home and meet Tigger, who says “Tiggers never get lost” before rescuing Rabbit.
Tigger takes Roo to play in the snow. When he and Roo bounce up a tree, Tigger is too nervous to come down. Christopher Robin, Piglet, Kanga, and Rabbit help Tigger. Tigger can’t escape whereas Roo can. The Narrator helps Tigger down by promising not to bounce again. Rabbit plans to keep Tigger to his vow but relents when he realizes how unhappy everyone is. Tigger sings while teaching everyone to bounce.
