The Smurfs Cartoon Movie
The Smurfs is a 2011 American 3D live-action/computer-animated comedy film largely based on Belgian comics creator Peyo’s comic series of the same name. Raja Gosnell directed the film, which stars Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara, and Hank Azaria, as well as Jonathan Winters, Katy Perry, George Lopez, Anton Yelchin, and Fred Armisen, and Alan Cumming. It is the first live-action/animated Sony Pictures Animation film, and the first of two live-action/animated Smurfs feature films. The film follows the Smurfs as they get disoriented in New York City and attempt to find their way home before it’s too late.
Jordan Kerner purchased the rights in 2002 after five years of talks, and the picture began production with Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies before being acquired by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation in 2008. Filming started in New York City in March 2010.
