The Amazing World Of Gumball Cartoon
The Amazing World of Gumball (also known as TAWOG or Gumball) is a Cartoon Network cartoon comedy produced by Ben Bocquelet. The series follows the lives of Gumball Watterson, a 12-year-old blue anthropomorphic cat, and his adopted goldfish brother Darwin, who attend middle school in the fictitious California city of Elmore. They are often involved in numerous misadventures across the city, during which they engage with other family members (younger sister Anais, mother Nicole, and father Richard) and a large cast of other people.
Several of the series’ characters were based on rejected characters from Bocquelet’s earlier commercial work, and the series’ idea was a combination of “family programs and school shows,” which Cartoon Network was very interested in. After Bocquelet submitted The Amazing World of Gumball to the network, the executive of Turner Broadcasting, Daniel Lennard, approved the creation of the programme. Boulder Media (Ireland; season 1) and Studio Soi (Germany; seasons 2–6) developed the series in collaboration with Cartoon Network Studios Europe. Characters in Gumball are often developed, shot, and animated utilizing a variety of styles and methods, sometimes within the same scene, which is a deliberate artistic choice (stylized traditional animation, puppetry, CGI, stop motion, Flash animation, live-action, etc.). The series has won critical acclaim and gained a cult following due to its copious allusions to popular and Internet culture, sarcasm, subtle innuendos, and dark humor. Gumball, although being a children’s cartoon, typically addresses important or adult issues, such as philosophy, marriage, cyberbullying, political intolerance, mental illness, and the human condition.
On September 6, 2016, Bocquelet declared that the series will stop after its sixth season. In October 2018, he confirmed his opinion on Twitter. However, Turner Northern Europe was unable to affirm that the sixth season would be the final, leaving the door open for more episodes. Following the conclusion of the series, two miniseries were released: Darwin’s Yearbook (six episodes) in November 2019 and The Gumball Chronicles (eight episodes) in October 2020. Cartoon Network announced the creation of a television film based on the series on February 17, 2021. On September 21, 2021, it was revealed that a new spin-off series, which would serve as a sequel to both the program and the film, had been approved for Cartoon Network and HBO Max.
