Dexter’s Laboratory Cartoon
Dexter’s Laboratory is a Cartoon Network animated television series developed by Genndy Tartakovsky. It follows Dexter, a young prodigy and inventor who conceals a secret laboratory in his room from his parents. He is often at conflict with Dee Dee, his elder sister, who always manages to obtain access to Dexter’s lab and unwittingly foils his studies. Dexter has a savage rivalry with Mandark, a neighbor and classmate who is also a kid genius. In the first two seasons, other segments concentrating on superhero-based characters such as Monkey, Dexter’s pet lab monkey/superhero, and the Justice Friends, a trio of superheroes who share an apartment, are featured. Tartakovsky based the series on student films he did at the California Institute of the Arts and proposed it to Fred Seibert’s inaugural animated shorts showcase What a Cartoon! at Hanna-Barbera. From 1995 to 1996, four pilots aired on Cartoon Network and TNT. A half-hour series, consisting of two seasons totaling 52 episodes, aired from April 28, 1996, until June 15, 1998, thanks to high viewer approval ratings. Tartakovsky quit concentrating on Samurai Jack after a television feature titled Dexter’s Laboratory: Ego Trip aired as the planned series finale on December 10, 1999.
The series was revived in November 2000 for two seasons, totaling 26 episodes, which premiered on November 18, 2001, and ended on November 20, 2003. Because of Tartakovsky’s departure, the show’s final two seasons included Chris Savino as showrunner, as well as a new production crew at Cartoon Network Studios, who made adjustments to the visual art style and character designs. Dexter’s Laboratory was nominated for four Primetime Emmy Awards, four Golden Reel Awards, and nine additional Annie Awards, and won three of them. Craig McCracken, Seth MacFarlane, Butch Hartman, Paul Rudish, and Rob Renzetti are among the animators whose careers were launched as a result of the show. Children’s books, comic books, DVD and VHS releases, music albums, toys, and video games are examples of spin-off media.
