Jon Snow is a fictional character in American author George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series of fantasy books and its television adaptation Game of Thrones, in which he is played by English actor Kit Harington. He is a key point of view character in the books. He’s one of the series’ most popular characters, and The New York Times calls him one of the author’s best inventions. Jon is a prominent character in the TV show, and his plot in the season 5 finale drew a lot of attention. Jon is introduced as the illegitimate son of Ned Stark, Lord of Winterfell in the North of Westeros, in the 1996 film A Game of Thrones. Jon joins the Night’s Watch, who protect the far northern boundaries against the wildlings who live beyond The Wall, knowing that his chances are restricted by his position as a bastard.
