Why is Cars Disney a must-see for so many people?
An American computer-animated sports comedy, Cars was released by Walt Disney Pictures and created by Pixar Animation Studios in 2006. After Pixar was purchased by Disney in January 2006, this was the studio’s last independent production before the studio was merged with Disney’s. It was directed by John Lasseter from a script by Dan Fogelman and written with Lasseter, Joe Ranft, Kiel Murray, Phil Lorin, and Jorgen Klubien. Lightning McQueen, a race car on his way to the biggest race of his life, gets stuck in an abandoned town called Radiator Springs and learns some valuable lessons about friendship, family, and the things in life that are truly worth waiting for. The film is set in a world populated entirely by anthropomorphic talking cars and other vehicles.
When the film Cars opened in North Carolina on May 26, 2006 and was released in the United States on June 9, 2006 to generally good reviews and economic success, it grossed $462 million worldwide on a $120 million budget. The premiere took place at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord. One of the two Academy Awards it was nominated for was Best Animated Feature, but lost to Happy Feet (but won both the Annie Award for Best Animated Feature and the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film).
Following the success of Cars, Pixar and Disneytoon Studios created Cars 2 and two spin-offs, respectively, launching a multimedia brand with two sequels and two spin-offs (2011)
