What is the story of Galaxy of Terror (1981)?

Galaxy of Terror is a 1981 horror science fiction film directed by Bruce D. Clark and produced by Roger Corman under New World Pictures. United Artists distributed it. Edward Albert, Erin Moran, Ray Walston, and Taaffe O’Connell star.

The narrative takes place in two different worlds. The first is Xerxes, an Earth-like planet. Two individuals are visible on it playing an odd game. One is described as the game’s controller, an elderly lady called Mitri, and the other as the Planet Master, a guy whose head is shrouded by a brilliant ball of red light. The two chat cryptically about things being set in motion, and the Master orders Ilvar, one of his military commanders, to dispatch a ship on a rescue mission to the other planet, Morganthus, in search of a ship that has gone missing.
