The Astros in 1965

In 1965, the club and its supporters fled the sweltering heat of Texas by relocating to the Harris County Domed Stadium, afterward renamed the Astrodome. The team’s name was altered as a reference to its new stadium and the adjacent NASA space complex. On April 12, 1965, the Houston Astros lost 2-0 to the Philadelphia Phillies in the opening game of Major League Baseball’s indoor era (although trivia experts like to point out that the Yankees played the Astros in an exhibition game to open the Dome a few days earlier and Mickey Mantle hit the first home run there).
