Every Which Way But Loose is a 1978 American action comedy film directed by James Fargo and produced by Robert Daley. Clint Eastwood plays Philo Beddoe, a trucker and bare-knuckle brawler traveling the American West in pursuit of a lost love, followed by his brother/manager, Orville, and his pet orangutan, Clyde, in an uncommon and quirky comedic role. Philo encounters a colorful crew of individuals along the way, including a couple of cops and an entire motorcycle gang (the Black Widows of Pacoima), who end up following him for vengeance.

After a succession of Spaghetti Western and Dirty Harry appearances, Eastwood’s involvement in the picture surprised the film industry, and he was allegedly cautioned against shooting it. Despite receiving negative reviews from critics, the picture went on to become an immense hit, becoming, together with its 1980 sequel Any Which Way You Can, two of Eastwood’s best-earning films. It is one of the top 250 highest-grossing films of all time when adjusted for inflation.
