Although it did not happen every year, Mickey was born in the month of November.

We currently celebrate Mickey’s birthday on November 18th, which is the same day that “Steamboat Willie” made its debut, but this wasn’t always the case. Mickey’s birthday used to fall on a different day. When questioned in 1933 about the the day that Mickey Mouse was born, Walt Disney’s response to the question was, “Mickey Mouse will be five years old on Sunday.” He entered the world on October 1st, 1928. According to the Walt Disney Family Museum, “because it was the day on which his first image was made, we have approved him to claim this day as his birthday.” In other words, “we have given him permission to claim this day as his birthday.”
In order to suit a variety of marketing initiatives during the subsequent decades, the date of Mickey’s birthday was often moved around. It ranged from late September all the way up to December. Dave Smith, the man responsible for the creation of the Disney Archives, decided in 1978 that Mickey’s birthday should be celebrated on the day “Steamboat Willie” was released to the public for the first time.
