Quint is the film Jaws’ deuteragonist. He was a professional shark hunter who lived on Amity Island, a fictitious summer resort where he ran his sharking boat, the Orca.

Quint’s birth date is unclear; nonetheless, he served in WWII and was a survivor of the USS Indianapolis when the ship was attacked by a Japanese submarine after delivering the Hiroshima bomb. On a Thursday morning, while floating in the water with his shipmates, Quint ran with a buddy called Herbie Robinson, who had been bitten in half below the waist and murdered by a shark. Quint left the Navy after the war and chose to dedicate his life completely to shark hunting after being rescued along with 315 other survivors on their sixth day adrift, having been motivated to do so by the death of his companion, Herbie.
