North Shore (1987 film)
Rick Kane (Matt Adler), a teenage surfer from a wave tank in Arizona, travels to the North Shore of Oahu to surf the season in order to determine whether or not he has the talents necessary to make it as a professional surfer. North Shore is a hero’s journey in which Rick Kane confronts and learns what really matters in life via the narrative of surfing. It’s classic ’80s cheese, and surfers all across the world have memorized all the best phrases. Turtle, played by surfer/actor John Philbin, says some of the most memorable lines in the Hollywood/surfing crossover, “When the wave breaks here, don’t be there!”
