Ace Ventura Pet Detective Movie Fan
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective is a 1994 American comedy film starring Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura, an animal detective entrusted with retrieving the Miami Dolphins football team’s kidnapped dolphin mascot. Tom Shadyac directed the picture, and he co-wrote the script with Jack Bernstein and Jim Carrey. Courteney Cox, Tone Loc, Sean Young, and former Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino co-star in the film, which also has a cameo appearance by death metal band Cannibal Corpse.
Morgan Creek Productions budgeted $15 million for the picture, which was released by Warner Bros. in February 1994. It earned $72.2 million in the United States and Canada, and $35 million in other markets, for a total of $107.2 million worldwide. Critics had conflicting feelings about it. Because of Carrey’s portrayal, the picture developed a cult following among male teens. It not only launched Carrey’s cinematic career, but it also launched a franchise, producing the sequel feature Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995), the animated television series Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (three seasons, 1995–2000), and later, solo made-for-TV sequel Ace Ventura Jr.: Pet Detective (2009). Ace Ventura: Pet Detective drew controversy for portraying a transgender character years after its premiere.
