Alien Ridley Scott Franchise
Alien is a science-fiction horror and action media brand focused on the film series starring Sigourney Weaver as warrant officer Ellen Ripley and her fights with an alien lifeform known as “the Alien” or Xenomorph. Alien (1979), directed by Ridley Scott, was the first film in the series, which was followed by three sequels: Aliens (1986), directed by James Cameron; Alien 3 (1992), directed by David Fincher; and Alien Resurrection (1997), directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Scott also helmed a prequel trilogy, consisting of Prometheus (2012) and Alien: Covenant (2017), which chronicles the activities of the David 8 android and the “Engineers,” the creators of the namesake aliens.
Numerous novels, comic books, video games, and a forthcoming television series produced by Scott for FX on Hulu, starring Noah Hawley, have all been inspired by the series. It spawned a slew of spin-offs, the most notable of which being the Alien vs. Predator series, which merges the Alien and Predator franchises and comprises of two films, as well as a number of comic books, novels, and video games.
The Alien franchise portrays a series of violent encounters between humans and the Aliens, a hostile, endoparasitoid alien race, mostly spanning the 21st and 24th centuries. Humanity is portrayed as a space-faring society with interstellar domination; space travel takes months, if not years, and necessitates the usage of cryosleep. The unethical megacorporation Weyland-Yutani Corp, which intends to profit off the Aliens, continually manipulates and threatens people throughout the series. The human race’s origins are fictionalized in this series. A member of the “Engineers,” an ancient humanoid race, sacrifices himself, enabling his DNA to start the emergence of humans. The Engineers’ previous experiments, which were supposed to eliminate the human species using a lethal mutagen, lay the way for the Aliens to rise and populate by traumatically implanting larvae in hosts. Throughout the series, incidents from several generations are recounted.
