Johnny Depp testifies that he assisted Amber Heard in landing the part of Mera in Aquaman.

According to The Direct, during his current $50 million USD defamation action against ex-wife Heard, Depp described how he supported her throughout the audition process leading up to Aquaman. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor recalls that after her initial few meetings with the film’s creative team, Heard raised reservations about shooting in Australia. “So [Heard] asked if I would, because… for a few years I had had a multi-year deal with Warner Bros. so we’d been in business together so I knew these people,” Depp said. “I’d been on films with them… She asked me if I would speak to them. I made a phone call and I spoke to… the three upper echelon… Warner executives, Kevin Sujihara, Sue Kroll, and Greg [Silverman].”

Depp goes on to claim that, although he is uncertain how much his chats with Warner Bros. influenced Heard’s chances of getting cast in Aquaman, they may have changed the studio’s attitude on casting her. “I can only say that ultimately she did get the job in the film, so hopefully I suppose I had curbed their worries to some degree” Depp added.

Heard has contested Depp’s participation in her Aquaman role, claiming that she was cast on her own merits. “No, Ms. Vasquez, I got that role by auditioning,” Heard answered when asked whether Depp got her the gig.
