The Mandalorian season 2, episode 5, “Chapter 13: The Jedi,” reveals the alien who many fans called Baby Yoda’s true identity and his Jedi past from the Clone Wars, with the Child’s moniker revealed as Grogu. Mando and Baby Yoda, as planned, found Ahsoka Tano on the forest moon of Corvus, where she was continuing her quest for Grand Admiral Thrawn. Although Ahsoka did not end up teaching Baby Yoda as Mando had anticipated, she did give some intriguing new insight on his origins.

Grogu has been cloaked in mystery ever since he was introduced as a great surprise at the conclusion of The Mandalorian season 1 premiere. While the program has disclosed certain facets of his character, it has left some of the most important questions about him unresolved.

Grogu’s name and origin were among them. Showrunner Jon Favreau had said that he knew what the Child’s name was, but few anticipated it to be revealed so soon.
