Better Off Dead (film)

Lane Myer, a high school student in Greendale in Northern California, has two primary interests: skiing and his six-month girlfriend, Beth Truss. Beth leaves Lane for the attractive and popular captain of the ski team, Roy Stalin, just before Christmas. Roy is a haughty bully who unjustly dismisses Lane during ski team tryouts. Lane’s automobile, an outdated station wagon, is also criticized by Beth. Lane also owns a 1967 Camaro, which he has yet to get working and now sits in the driveway in a decrepit condition.

Lane lives in a suburban subdivision with his mother, Jenny, a ditzy housewife who routinely concocts creepy (and creepy) family meals; his genius little brother, Badger, who never speaks but can build powerful lasers and attract trashy women from “How-to” books at the age of “almost 8”; and his lawyer father, Al, who daily tries to stop the menacing paperboy, Johnny Gasparini, from breaking his garage door windows with thrown Furthermore, Johnny alleges that the Myers owe him two dollars for newspapers and follows Lane about, saying, “I want my two dollars!” Lane also meets two Korean drag racers on a daily basis, one of whom learned English by listening to Howard Cosell.
