Kazue Kato’s manga series Blue Exorcist is a dark fantasy manga series written and drawn in Japan. Rin Okumura, a teenager, finds that he and his twin brother Yukio are Satan’s offspring, born of a human woman and that he is the inheritor of Satan’s abilities. Rin enrolls at True Cross Academy to become an exorcist under Yukio’s guidance in order to confront his father Satan, who has killed their guardian.
Individual chapters have been compiled into twenty-seven tank volumes as of July 2021, with the manga printed in Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine from April 2009. The manga was licensed for North American production by Viz Media, and the first volume was published in April 2011. The anime’s DVDs were also distributed in English markets by Aniplex of America. A-1 Pictures developed an anime television series based on the series, which aired from April to October 2011. Blue Exorcist: The Movie, an anime film, was released in December 2012.
