Stranger Things was inspired by “true” stories.

A reported US military operation dubbed the ‘Montauk Project’ was the show’s working title at one time. Folklore has it that this program subjected minors to experiments including mind-reading, mind control, and time travel.
Montauk Project: Experiments in Time, written by Preston Nicols (an electrical engineer who claims to have worked on the project), was published in 1992 by Nicols.
In an interview with The Sun, he revealed that “we began to look at how you would link brains with computer systems” to build a mind-control device.
Time travel became possible when researchers discovered that a person might generate a vortex in another time period just by thinking about it.
A television show based on this topic has been a huge success, even though there isn’t much proof that anything evil occurred in Montauk.
