Taiju informs his science-loving pal Senku he’s ready to confess to Yuzuriha, whom he’s loved for 5 years. Just as Taiju was going to confess beneath a camphor tree in the playground, a blue light came. Taiju pulled Yuzuriha towards the tree to protect her, but that light petrified all people on Earth. Taiju keeps awareness as time passes because he wants to liberate himself and Yuzuriha. Taiju escapes petrification and discovers a letter in a tree that tells him Senku has also escaped. Senku stayed aware by counting how long he’d been frozen. Senku understands it’s October 5, 5738.

Taiju and Senku use Senku’s science to recreate civilisation. They create nital, a corrosive solvent that erodes rock. First, they seek to release Yuzuriha, but when assaulted by lions that had bred in Japan for ages, they free Shishio Tsukasa, “the strongest high school student”. Tsukasa kills lions with her might. They make more nital to liberate Yuzuriha, but Senku learns that as a youngster, Tsukasa was viciously tortured by an adult while gathering seashells for his sick sister. A guy who thinks he can fish in Tsukasa took the shells. Tsukasa thought only “those with pure young hearts” should be resurrected, so he started killing petrified adults. There developed Senku’s Kingdom of Science and Tsukasa’s Empire.
