Ebenezer Scrooge A Christmas Carol Christmas
A Christmas Carol is a 1938 American film version of Charles Dickens’ 1843 novella of the same name, starring Reginald Owen as Ebenezer Scrooge, an old miser who is visited by three ghosts on Christmas Eve and learns the folly of his ways.
Fred is slipping on ice on a London sidewalk on Christmas Eve in the nineteenth century. He meets Peter and Tim Cratchit, the sons of Bob Cratchit, his uncle Ebenezer’s clerk. When Fred exposes his identity, the youngsters flee in panic. Fred soon arrives at his miserly maternal uncle Ebenezer Scrooge’s counting-house. Scrooge rejects two gentlemen collecting money for charity after refusing his nephew’s offer to eat with him on Christmas.
That night, Scrooge grudgingly permits his employee Bob Cratchit to have a paid holiday, but sends him back to work the next day. Bob later accidently knocks Scrooge’s cap off with a snowball. Scrooge fires Bob and withholds a week’s wages to make up for his destroyed hat, as well as a shilling to make up the difference. Bob spends the rest of his earnings on Christmas dinner for his family.
