Hopper’s meeting with a Demogorgon in a Russian jail may signal Upside Down alterations. Hawkins Lab’s experiments were inspired by the CIA’s Project MkUltra. In season 3 of Stranger Things, the Russians built an Upside-Down portal. Despite the Gate’s destruction, Hopper’s friends and family assumed he was dead.
In season 4, Russians captured a Demogorgon before sealing the Gate. Inmates fought to save the predator. Hopper didn’t believe in the Demogorgon. Closing the Gate should have annihilated Mind-Flayer, which unites all Upside-Down entities. This seems like a plot hole.
Unlike season 3’s Demodogs, season 4’s Demogorgon may have survived separation from the Mind-Flayer. Vecna’s new Gates have strengthened it. Hopper’s premise that Eleven isn’t safe from a Demogorgon is reasonable.
The Demogorgon’s might is scary in Stranger Things season 4. Despite Will’s death, the Hawkins gang explored the Upside Down in season 4. Perhaps Vecna gates are bringing the two worlds together, explaining Upside Down earthquakes. Vecna wants to bring Hawkins the Upside Down.
