Hellfire Club’s Black Cat

One club anecdote included a black cat. A teenage farm visitor insisted on visiting the Hell Fire Club. The next day, he was discovered dead in a mountain creek. His host assumed the youngster was killed and requested a priest to accompany him to Hell Fire Club. The club was dark when they arrived.

A tall black-cloaked guy answered when they knocked. As soon as they arrived, they were dragged to the dining room. Two guys were seated for a meal.

A gorgeous black cat entered the room and sat at the table. The priest noted the cat’s ears were laying like horns on its fierce-looking head. Wide, deep eyes blazed contempt at the preacher, who stood to leave the diabolical gathering. He was pulled back and seated. He hurled a bottle of holy water at the cat while reciting the exorcism prayer.

The farmer’s horrified shouts were heard among the chaos. The priest prayed until sulphur and smoke pushed him out. Outside, he discovered the farmer’s face and neck scratched by claws. He never recovered. According to folklore, the burned-out Hell Fire Club still stands on the hilltop today.
