Why do Lock, Shock, and Barrel look scary but they are so famous?
The Nightmare Before Christmas, a 1993 stop-motion Disney film directed by Tim Burton, features Lock, Shock, and Barrel as the film’s secondary villains. These three Halloween Town trick-or-treaters were Oogie Boogie’s goons who kidnapped Santa Claus and caused a brief Christmas calamity.
Lock, Shock, and Barrel serve Oogie Boogie with gusto throughout the film, but they do it out of concern for the hapless character. After Jack Skellington directs them to hunt Santa, they perform the musical number “Kidnap the Sandy Claws” and inflict some little mayhem on the people of Halloween Town. Despite the fact that they are constantly shown together, the three seem to have disagreements and disputes with one another from time to time.
“Lock, Shock, and Barrel” are presented as “little henchmen” for Oogie Boogie. In reality, they aren’t all that devoted to Oogie since they’re just doing it out of fear of him, and they’d rather have a good time than do something harmful. Jack Skellington enlists the trio’s help in the film’s climactic mission, which interests the Mayor. Oogie Boogie is not to be involved in this, so Lock, Shock, and Barrel are sent to abduct Sandy Claws. A musical song called “Abduct The Sandy Claws” is sung by the three as they make their way to the treehouse to kidnap the Christmas figure, despite Jack’s warning-demand.
