Mummy – Halloween symbols.
An animal or human mummy is one that has been preserved in such a manner that it will not deteriorate further if it is maintained in cold and dry circumstances. Intentionally or inadvertently, a body might become mummified. When corpses are stored in places with very low humidity or at extremely frigid temperatures, accidental mummification may occur. Unintentional exposure to certain chemicals or a lack of air may also lead to the development of necrotizing fasciitis. The technique of intentionally mummifying a body is a long embalming procedure that is done for religious or cultural reasons.
Displaying the remains of monks who are thought to have started the process of self-mumification before death is common in several Japanese Buddhist temples. For many weeks, the monks ate and drank only salt, nuts, seeds, roots, and pine bark, all in the belief that they were going to die.
In Europe, Asia, and South America, mummies constructed consciously or accidentally have been discovered, but those from ancient Egypt are the most well-known and have had the most impact on people’s imaginations.
A variety of myths about resurrected mummies have been inspired by the ancient Egyptian idea that mummification would ensure one’s immortality after death, as well as the popular belief in a “curse of the pharaohs” that would kill anybody who desecrated an Egyptian tomb.
