Where was Carnival of Souls filmed?

“Carnival of Souls,” which was primarily shot in Lawrence, Kansas, did return, but not for over three decades. It became known as “the movie that wouldn’t die” in the years after its 1962 debut, and it established a cult following due to late-night television and screenings in arthouse theatres and on college campuses. It is now one of the most well-known films to emerge from Kansas. But, for a while, it seemed that “Carnival of Souls” was doomed.

Church organist Mary Henry (played by Candace Hilligoss) escapes a vehicle accident that kills two of her friends in the horrific, atmospheric tale of a lady who defies death but doesn’t get away with it for long. She left her home in Lawrence, Kansas, for Salt Lake City. Her history starts to catch up with her there. She is haunted by visions of a spectral entity known only as “The Man,” who finally draws her to an abandoned carnival pavilion where she will meet her end.
