Pet Sematary Stephen King Halloween Horror Movie
Pet Sematary is a 2019 American supernatural horror film written by Jeff Buhler and directed by Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer from a screenplay by Matt Greenberg. It is the second adaptation of Stephen King’s 1983 book of the same name, and a remake of the 1989 film. Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz, and John Lithgow appear in the film, which follows a family that uncovers a secret cemetery in the woods behind their new house.
Greenberg started writing the script for a new rendition of Pet Sematary in March 2010. The remake will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Steven Schneider, with Juan Carlos Fresnadillo in discussions to direct. By December 2017, Paramount Pictures has given the go-ahead for this new film adaptation of King’s work, directed by the combo of Kölsch and Widmyer. The principal photography began on June 18, 2018, in Montreal and Hudson, Quebec, Canada, and concluded on August 11, 2018.
Pet Sematary debuted at the South by Southwest film festival on March 16, 2019, and was released theatrically in the United States by Paramount Pictures on April 5, 2019. The picture made more than $113 million worldwide and garnered mixed reviews from reviewers, who appreciated the film’s dark tone, atmosphere, and performances while criticizing the sluggish pace and dependence on jump scares. Critics and moviegoers were split on the differences between the film and the novel, while many thought it was better than the 1989 version.
