1980 Philadelphia Phillies season
The 1980 Philadelphia Phillies season was the team’s 98th in Major League Baseball (MLB), and it ended with the Phillies winning the World Series at home on October 21, 1980, by beating the Kansas City Royals in Game 6.
The squad ended the regular season with 91 wins and 71 losses, good enough to win the National League East by one game over the Montreal Expos. The Phillies went on to win their first NL championship since 1950, defeating the Houston Astros in the NLCS, and then defeating the Kansas City Royals in the World Series. The 1980 Philadelphia Phillies became the only team in the divisional era (since 1969) to win the World Series while having the lowest playoff record of any club.
Because of the several tight games, the 1980 Phillies were dubbed “The Cardiac Kids.” Following the example of the American League’s Yankees, the Phillies began broadcasting games on the cable network PRISM that year.
This Philadelphia Phillies Champions T-Shirt was given to everyone who helped the team win the World Series in 1980. A fantastic collectible for any Philly or baseball lover!
