Who is Resident Evil?
Capcom produced the Resident Evil video game series, known in Japan as Biohazard. Survival horror, third-person shooter, and first-person shooter games include zombies and other monsters. The franchise includes live-action films, animated films, TV programs, comic books, novels, audio plays, and other media and goods.
Shinji Mikami and Tokuro Fujiwara developed Resident Evil in 1996 for PlayStation.
It defined the survival horror genre and popularized zombies. Resident Evil 4 (2005) included more dynamic shooting action and popularized the “over-the-shoulder” third-person perspective. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017) switched to first-person. Capcom has remade Resident Evil in 2002, 2019, and 2020. (2020).
2002’s Resident Evil was followed by five sequels and 2021’s Welcome to Raccoon City. The films got bad reviews but made over $1 billion. As of December 2021, 123 million copies of Resident Evil have been sold globally. Resident Evil is the highest-grossing horror and zombie franchise, with the best-selling horror game series and the highest-grossing live-action video game film series.
In earlier episodes, a gang battles the Umbrella Corporation, a pharmaceutical organization that creates the T-virus and other mutagens for “bio-organic weapons” research. Mutagens may turn people into zombies and animals and plants into monsters.
Raccoon Metropolis is a fictitious midwestern American city in the first game and several sequels. In the metropolis and its suburbs, Umbrella Corporation bioengineering labs manufacture biological weapons viruses. The T-virus is produced in a facility beneath Raccoon City called “The Hive” in the films. As Umbrella’s mutagen experimentation expands and the virus spreads to Raccoon City, STARS officers and other characters investigate Umbrella’s role. The US government destroys Raccoon City with a thermobaric missile to stop the virus. [38] A probe brings down Umbrella. Umbrella’s biological weapons and viruses cause global epidemics. Each sequel’s heroes encounter new bioterrorist forces and animals.
Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, and Rebecca Chambers are STARS members. Albert Wesker heads STARS and covertly works for Umbrella; he’s the main enemy. Other characters include Leon S. Kennedy, Chris’ sister Claire Redfield, corporate spy Ada Wong, and systems engineer Ethan Winters.
