Rugrats Block Cartoon 90s
Nickelodeon’s Rugrats is an animated television series produced by Arlene Klasky, Gabor Csupo, and Paul Germain. The sitcom follows a group of toddlers, most notably Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, Lil, and Angelica, as they go about their daily lives, which frequently include mundane events that turn into adventures in the infants’ imaginations. The adults in the series are virtually always oblivious of what the kids are up to, which gives the infants greater freedom to explore and experience their environment.
The Ren & Stimpy Show aired on August 11, 1991, as the second Nicktoon after Doug and before The Ren & Stimpy Show. After 65 episodes, production was terminated in 1993, with the last episode showing on May 22, 1994. “A Rugrats Passover” and “A Rugrats Chanukah,” two primarily Jewish-themed episodes that both gained critical acclaim, were the only new episodes shown from 1995 to 1996. In 1997, new Rugrats episodes started showing on a regular basis, and in 1998, The Rugrats Movie was aired, introducing the character of Tommy’s younger brother Dil. In 2000, a sequel named Rugrats in Paris: The Movie was released, with Kimi, a newborn, and her mother Kira joining the ensemble. Rugrats Go Wild, a crossover feature with sibling Nicktoon The Wild Thornberrys, received mixed reviews when it was released in 2003. On June 8, 2004, the last episode of the series was broadcast, bringing the total number of episodes and seasons to 172.
Nickelodeon aired the made-for-TV special “All Growed Up” on August 11, 2001, to commemorate the series’ tenth anniversary. The special served as a pilot for the Rugrats spinoff series All Grown Up!, which follows the infants and their parents after they have grown up for ten years. Rugrats Pre-School Daze was another spinoff series explored, but only four episodes were created. Under the title Rugrats Tales from the Crib, two direct-to-video specials were also created. Video games, comics, toys, and other goods are among the series’ tie-in media. During its 13-year career, Rugrats won over 20 honors, including four Daytime Emmy Awards, seven Kids’ Choice Awards, and a plaque on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Nickelodeon gave the program great ratings, and it was the network’s top-rated show for five years in a row. Until 2012, when SpongeBob SquarePants aired its 173rd episode, it was Nickelodeon’s longest-running Nicktoon.
