Samurai Jack Cartoon Movie
Genndy Tartakovsky developed Samurai Jack for Cartoon Network. Tartakovsky imagined Samurai Jack after completing 1996’s Dexter’s Laboratory. Samurai Jack was inspired by Kung Fu and Tartakovsky’s love of samurai culture.
The protagonist is an unidentified Japanese samurai prince with a supernatural katana. In one episode, two minor people call him “Jack,” therefore he gets that name. He tries to liberate his land from Aku, a shapeshifting monster. Just as Jack is ready to inflict the ultimate blow against Aku, the demon takes him to a dystopian future dominated by him. Jack must go back in time to stop Aku from taking over the world. Jack’s hunt for a route back to his own time period exceeds Aku’s control, but his efforts are futile since the road home is just out of grasp.
Samurai Jack premiered on August 10, 2001, and continued for four seasons of 13 episodes each until September 25, 2004, without ending its tale. The show was resurrected 12 years later for a darker, more adult fifth season that concludes Jack’s narrative. It started on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim as part of its Toonami programming block on March 11, 2017, and finished on May 20, 2017. Tartakovsky co-directed several episodes.
