Santa has Appeared in Coke Advertisements since the 1920s
In the 1920s, The Coca-Cola Company began its Christmas advertising with shopping-related advertisements in magazines such as The Saturday Evening Post. The first Santa advertisements featured a strict-looking Claus, a la Thomas Nast.
In 1930, artist Fred Mizen depicted a department store Santa drinking a bottle of Coke in front of a crowd. The advertisement featured the world’s largest soda fountain, which was located in the Famous Barr Co. department store in St. Louis, Mo. Mizen’s painting was used in print advertisements during the 1930 Christmas season, and it appeared in The Saturday Evening Post in December.
