East Bound and Down

“East Bound and Down” is a song written by Jerry Reed and Dick Feller that was sung by Reed for the film Smokey and the Bandit’s soundtrack. Reed sings the lead vocals, while Gordon Stoker of the Jordanaires sings the harmony vocals. It was released as a single by RCA Records in August 1977. The lyrics of the song recount the core narrative line of the film (without the runaway bride part) of a 28-hour round-trip journey from Atlanta, Georgia to Texarkana, Texas and back to illegally smuggle 400 cases of Coors beer for an after-race celebration.
