Tony Maylam directed The Burning, a 1981 American slasher film starring Brian Matthews, Leah Ayres, Brian Backer, Larry Joshua, and Lou David. Its narrative revolves around a summer camp caretaker who gets horrifically burned as a result of a prank gone awry and seeks revenge at a neighboring summer camp years later.
The script was written by Bob Weinstein and Peter Lawrence, based on the New York urban legend of the Cropsey maniac, from a scenario devised by producer Harvey Weinstein, Tony Maylam, and Brad Grey. Jason Alexander, Fisher Stevens, and Holly Hunter make their cinematic debuts. The music was written by Rick Wakeman of the progressive rock band Yes.
