Rob Zombie sent The Devil’s Rejects to the MPAA eight times

Rob Zombie submitted the film to the MPAA eight times before ultimately obtaining an R rating. Zombie adjusted the film for tonal difficulties rather than explicit violence or blatant nudity to satisfy the MPAA while maintaining his vision.

The MPAA was particularly upset with the tone of the sequence in the hotel room between Otis (Bill Moseley) and Gloria (Priscilla Barnes), in which they abuse their captives in some rather terrible ways. Zombie had to cut two minutes from the sequence to secure an R-rating. The DVD includes the original edit of the segment.
