In 1994, The Mask: The Animated Series was a cartoon based on the film The Mask. The animation continues after the movie, but instead of tossing away the Mask, Stanley retains it. The program aired for three seasons, from August 12, 1995 to August 30, 1997, and inspired its own short-run comic book series, Adventures of The Mask. Two episodes of the show were written by John Arcudi, the former creator of the original comics. It was previously shown on Fridays as part of the Cartoons Cartoons lineup, but after being discontinued, it was relocated to Disney Channel (where the live-action films were also aired).

In a separate universe, mild-mannered, good-hearted bank clerk Stanley Ipkiss preserves the powerful and chaotic Mask of Loki to become his zany trickster alter-ego, The Mask, and wield it for good. Stanley Ipkiss/The Mask, accompanied by his loyal pet and best friend, Milo the Jack Russell Terrier, fights off the criminals and super-villains who threaten his hometown of Edge City while struggling with his persona’s unpredictable and out-of-control nature when causing mischief with his cranky landlady, an idiotic police force, nosy news reporters, and trying to find a girlfriend for himself and a better position in his job.
