The last song Prince ever performed was ‘Purple Rain.’
Lisa Coleman told NME that the song represents “a fresh start Rain, the cleaning force; purple, the sky at dawn.”
According to NME, Prince’s own explanation draws similarities with Judgement Day: “When there’s blood in the sky… red and blue Mean purple.” “Purple rain represents the end of the world and being with the one you love while using your faith/god to lead you through it.”
He subsequently played it at the 2007 Super Bowl halftime performance in heavy rain, making it one of the most legendary halftime displays of all time. “Purple Rain” was also the last song Prince ever performed live, as he closed up a 2016 show in Atlanta with the tune. It is still a fan favorite to this day.
“Your voice is plaintive. The guitar solo features agility, spins, and pirouettes. The strings then tug on your emotions, “Louder Sound was informed by Bobby Z. “‘Purple Rain’ is a musical equivalent of ‘Stairway To Heaven.’ It is not religious, yet people respect it.”
