The Thing 90S Scary Movie Halloween Horror Movie
The Thing is a 1982 American science fiction horror film directed by John Carpenter and based on Bill Lancaster’s script. It is based on the 1938 novella Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell Jr. and depicts the tale of a group of American researchers in Antarctica who come upon the titular “Thing,” a parasitic alien life-form that assimilates, then imitates, other species. As they find that they can no longer trust each other and that any of them may be the Thing, the gang is overtaken by paranoia and strife.
Following 1951’s The Thing from Another World, production started in the mid-1970s as a faithful adaptation of the novella. The Thing passed through multiple directors and authors, each with their own take on the narrative. Filming began in August 1981 and lasted around twelve weeks, taking place on refrigerated sets in Los Angeles, Juneau, Alaska, and Stewart, British Columbia. Rob Bottin’s monster effects, a combination of chemicals, food items, rubber, and mechanical pieces transformed by his vast crew into an extraterrestrial capable of taking on any shape, cost $1.5 million of the film’s $15 million budget.
If you like the original 1982 John Carpenter film “The Thing,” this is the throw blanket for you! The scary monster, as well as many other moments from this popular horror/sci-fi film, are featured on the front. The back contains a variety of cinematic symbols, including the Dog Patch Tobacco figure and the Jurassic Park logo from Universal Studios.
