Videodrome 90S Scary Movie Halloween Horror Movie
Videodrome is a 1983 Canadian science fiction body horror film written and directed by David Cronenberg and starring James Woods, Sonja Smits, and Debbie Harry. Set in Toronto in the early 1980s, it follows the CEO of a tiny UHF television station who discovers a broadcast signal of snuff pictures. Layers of deceit and mind-control conspiracies emerge as he discovers the source of the signal and loses contact with reality in a sequence of progressively weird hallucinations.
Videodrome, distributed by Universal Pictures, was Cronenberg’s first picture to get support from a major Hollywood company. With the largest budget of any of his projects to date, the picture was a box-office flop, recouping just $2.1 million of a $5.9 million budget. The film drew accolades for its spectacular effects, Cronenberg’s directing, Woods and Harry’s performances, its “techno-surrealist” style, and its enigmatic, psychosexual themes. Cronenberg won Best Direction and was nominated for seven other accolades at the 5th Genie Awards.
