Yu Yu Hakusho in Anime Manga
Yoshihiro Togashi’s YuYu Hakusho (Japanese: 幽☆遊☆白書, Hepburn: Yū Yū Hakusho) is a Japanese manga series written and drawn by him. The series follows Yusuke Urameshi, an adolescent delinquent who is murdered by an automobile while trying to save the life of a kid. Yusuke is resurrected and given the title of “Underworld Detective” after passing a series of tests given to him by Koenma, the son of the emperor of the hereafter Underworld. He is tasked with investigating numerous crimes involving demons and apparitions in the Human World. As the manga proceeds, it becomes increasingly concentrated on martial arts bouts and competitions. Togashi started working on YuYu Hakusho in November 1990, based on his fascination with occult and horror films, as well as Buddhist mythology.
From December 1990 to July 1994, the manga was published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. There are 175 chapters in the series, which are compiled in 19 tank volumes. From January 2003 until January 2010, the manga was published exclusively in Viz’s Shonen Jump in North America. Noriyuki Abe directed an anime adaptation consisting of 112 television episodes, which were co-produced by Fuji Television, Yomiko Advertising, and Studio Pierrot. From October 1992 to December 1994, the television series was broadcast on Japan’s Fuji TV network. It was then licensed by Funimation in North America in 2001, and it aired on famous Cartoon Network blocks such as Adult Swim and later Toonami. In addition to the United States, the television series has been televised in a number of other countries. Two animated films, a series of original video animations (OVAs), audio CDs, video games, and other items have all been produced as part of the YuYu Hakusho brand.
YuYu Hakusho was a huge hit in Japan, selling more than 50 million copies, and won the prestigious Shogakukan Manga Award for shonen manga in 1993. In 1994 and 1995, the animated series won the Animage Anime Grand Prix for best anime. In Japan, a significant audience watched the anime series, as did a diverse variety of age groups in the United States. Critics in North America have mainly praised the anime’s script, characters, humor, and quantity of action.
