When his uncle Harvey gains control of Channel 62, a UHF television station, in a poker game, George Newman, a dreamer who hops between jobs, is placed in command of it. George and his pal Bob discover the station is virtually insolvent, surviving on repeats of classic series like Green Acres and Mister Ed. When a box intended for their rival, VHF station Channel 8, is misdelivered to George at Channel 62, he tries to deliver it personally, only to be angrily kicked out by RJ Fletcher, Channel 8’s CEO. Outside, George encounters Stanley, a janitor who was wrongfully dismissed by RJ, and gives him a position at Channel 62.
