“Halloween House” was the original title of “Hocus Pocus.” The title would not have been the only difference; the first draft, written by Mick Garris in the 1980s, was much darker than the final version. “Originally, I was writing about 12-year-olds,” Garris told Entertainment Weekly in 2017. “The kids being younger and in greater danger was certainly more explicitly frightening.”
