The twenty-third short starring Mickey Mouse was titled “The Picnic,” and it was released by Disney Studios in October of 1930. In the cartoon, Mickey and Minnie are preparing to go on a picnic, and Minnie wants to bring her dog with them, so she asks Mickey whether she may do so. Mickey is not bothered by this in the least. After that, he comes to the conclusion that the animal in question is a massive bloodhound that Minnie refers to as “Rover.” We later see Rover in the cartoon titled “The Moose Hunt,” which was produced in April 1931. In the Mickey Mouse cartoon from 1931, Mickey’s cherished puppy was ultimately given the name “Pluto.”
