One of the most notable sequences in the film The Great Outdoors is when Chet brings his family to Paul Bunyan’s Cupboard for supper, where he accepts the challenge of attempting to eat the Old 96er, a 96-ounce steak, so that his whole family may dine for free.
Paul Bunyan’s Cupboard does not exist, although it was inspired by the renowned North Wisconsin eatery Paul Bunyan’s Cook Shanty. Unfortunately, the Old 96er isn’t on the menu.
