What is the story of One Hundred And One Dalmatians?
The Hundred and One Dalmatians is a 1961 American animated adventure comedy film made by Walt Disney Productions and based on Dodie Smith’s 1956 book of the same name. The 17th Disney animated feature picture, stars Rod Taylor, Cate Bauer, Betty Lou Gerson, Ben Wright, Lisa Davis, and Martha Wentworth and was directed by Hamilton Luske, Clyde Geronimi, and Wolfgang Reitherman from a scenario by Bill Peet. The premise of the film revolves around a litter of Dalmatian pups that are abducted by Cruella de Vil (“DeVille”), who wants to use their fur to manufacture jackets. Pongo and Perdita went out to retrieve their babies from Cruella, and in the process rescued 84 more Dalmatians from pet stores, increasing the total number of Dalmatians to 101.
The picture was premiered in cinemas on January 25, 1961, and was a box office triumph, rescuing the studio from a financial downturn caused by Sleeping Beauty, a more expensive movie released two years before, and became the year’s eighth highest-grossing film in North America. Aside from the film’s box office success, the use of low-cost animation methods, such as xerography during the inking and painting of conventional animation cels, helped keep production expenses low. In 1996, Disney created a live-action adaptation of 101 Dalmatians, followed by 102 Dalmatians in 2000. 101 Dalmatians II: Patch’s London Adventure, a direct-to-video animated sequel to the 1961 classic, was released in 2003. Cruella, a live-action revival directed by Craig Gillespie, was released in cinemas and on Disney+ with Premier Access on May 28, 2021.
The lesson of 101 Dalmatians has stayed the same whether it is a book, a TV series, or a cartoon: Animals deserve our deep and enduring devotion. The plot is quite familiar: the two Dalmatians have their pups kidnapped by the evil Cruella de Vil, and they go on an epic trip across southeast England to reclaim them, encountering a variety of assistance along the way, including dogs, cats, cows, a two-year-old child, and a frail old man. Animals live in an ideal environment where they all work together to aid one another. Humans should act in the same manner.
